About this tool
Flooring / Laminate Calculator is a free, in-browser tool that works out how many boxes of laminate, vinyl plank or hardwood a room needs. Enter the room's length and width in feet and the coverage printed on each box (square feet per box), and it returns the number of boxes to buy. Nothing is uploaded — the math runs locally.
The room area is length × width. Adding a waste allowance gives area × (1 + waste ÷ 100), then boxes = ceil(area with waste ÷ box coverage), rounded up to whole boxes. Enter a price per box and a total-cost tile appears (boxes × price), turning the estimate into a budget.
Use the 10% default waste for straight-lay planks; increase it for diagonal layouts or rooms with many alcoves and cuts. Because flooring is sold by the box, ordering a little extra from the same batch protects against damaged planks and future repairs.
