Fixed Deposit / CD Calculator is a free, in-browser tool that computes the maturity value and total interest of a term deposit — an FD, certificate of deposit (CD) or any fixed-rate savings product — from the amount, annual rate, tenure and compounding frequency. All calculations run locally.
In cumulative mode interest is reinvested, so maturity = P·(1 + r/m)^(m·t) where m is the compounding frequency, and the APY tile shows the effective annual yield (1 + r/m)^m − 1 — the number that lets you compare deposits with different compounding. In simple-payout mode the interest is paid out each period instead of reinvested, so maturity is P + P·r·t.
Use it to compare a quarterly-compounded FD against a monthly-compounded CD at a slightly different rate: the APY column makes the true winner obvious.
Frequently asked questions
What is APY and why does it differ from the rate?
APY (annual percentage yield) is the effective annual return after compounding: (1 + r/m)^m − 1. The more frequent the compounding, the further APY rises above the nominal rate — 6.5% compounded quarterly is about 6.66% APY.
Which compounding frequency should I pick?
Match your bank's terms: Indian FDs typically compound quarterly, many US CDs compound daily or monthly, and some bonds annually. If unsure, quarterly is the most common FD convention.
What does the simple-interest payout mode model?
Non-cumulative deposits where interest is paid out to you each period rather than reinvested. Total interest is P × rate × years, and the APY tile shows the nominal rate since nothing compounds.
Is this calculator private?
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser — deposit amounts are never uploaded, stored or shared.
