About this tool
Gravel / Aggregate Calculator is a free, in-browser tool that estimates loose material by both volume and weight. Enter the length and width in feet, the depth in inches, and pick a material — gravel, crushed stone, sand or topsoil — and it returns cubic yards plus the tonnage suppliers charge by. Nothing is uploaded; the math runs locally.
Volume in cubic feet is length × width × (depth ÷ 12) × (1 + waste ÷ 100), and cubic yards divide that by 27. For the presets, tonnage uses typical densities in US tons per cubic yard: gravel 1.4, crushed stone 1.35, sand 1.35 and topsoil 1.1, so tons = cubic yards × that factor. Choose Custom to enter a density in pounds per cubic foot, where tons = (cubic feet × lb/ft³) ÷ 2000. Metric tonnes are US tons × 0.907185.
Use it to order by the ton for a driveway, path or drainage bed. Because material density varies by moisture and grade, treat the tonnage as a close estimate and confirm the exact figure with your supplier.
