About this tool
The Weighted Grade Calculator is a free, in-browser tool that computes your current course grade from category scores and their syllabus weights — homework 20%, exams 40%, and so on. Add or remove categories freely; the weighted average, letter grade and total weight graded update live.
If your entered weights sum to less than 100%, the tool also projects what average you need on the remaining weight to hit a target grade. The letter cutoffs are editable, so any grading table works.
Everything is calculated locally in your browser; no data is uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How is the weighted grade computed?
Each score is multiplied by its weight, the products are summed, and the total is divided by the sum of weights — so weights don't need to add up to 100 to see your current standing.
What does 'needed on remaining weight' mean?
If your categories cover less than 100% of the course, it is the average you must earn on the not-yet-graded portion for the final course grade to equal your target.
Can I change the letter grade boundaries?
Yes. Edit the cutoffs field (e.g. A=93, B=85) — entries are sorted automatically and anything below the lowest cutoff shows as F.
Do scores above 100% work?
Yes. Scores over 100 (extra credit) are accepted; weights must be positive numbers.
